The Woods of the Shire. Providing hobbits with timber, nuts, berries and game. Home to animals both benign and wild. Crumbling old ruins and tales of mystery. Welcome to the eight historical field trip!

    Date: Sunday June 2nd
    Time: 7:30PM UK/BST (2:30PM servertime)
Location: Meet in the center of Overhill, The Shire. We'll take a walk into the Bindbole Woods from there!

    About the field trip

Which are the prominent forested areas in the Shire? How do woodcutters work their skills, and what sorts of wood do they use? How do the bounders keep our forestlands safe? What legends and stories hail from the Shire woods?

Answers to these questions, and possibly more, may be given during our eight historical field trip in hobbit lands. There are no guarantees, though!

Meet up in the center of Overhill. After a short stroll into the woods outside of the village, our historians will present stories, tales, poetry and/or songs related to hobbit lore. Food WILL be served, but of course, any hobbit knows that the safest bet is to bring some of yer own.

Want to know more about hobbit history? Then come along!

    OOC details

This is the eight in our series of hobbit field trips, held approximately every six months! As usual, the event aims to combine a few lectures/stories of hobbit lore with songs, poetry and entertainment.

    Previous events have been to:
    • Greenfields (autumn 2009)
    • The Three-Farthing Stone (spring 2010)
    • Girdley Island/Brandywine river (autumn 2010)
    • Adso’s camp/Bree (spring 2011)
    • Buckland (autumn 2011)
    • Return to Greenfields (spring 2012)
    • Needlehole (autumn 2012)
Given the subject matter, this is a hobbit-preferred event. Should the odd lore-seeking dwarf or longshank interested in hobbit lore choose to show up, they won’t be chased away, but of course, you just KNOW that it will be much more fun if you rolled up a hobbit alt for the evening, don’t you? If not, be prepared for puzzled looks and the odd comment about your beard and/or height during the night.

People are encouraged to listen raptly to the given lectures, and to save most of the questions to the breaks. It goes without saying that this is a IC event, but remember that our historians have been known to go for a tall, exciting tale more than strict lore accuracy.

The field trip should last between 1,5- 2 hours.

    Welcome along! Have fun!

Yay, finished my woody song. And there is as good as almost not the word fish in it. More "wood" than "fish", promised!

Tonight is the night! Welcome one, welcome all, to the 8th Historical Field Trip!

Welcome to a lore night in the Shire, where local historians will teach yer a little more about our hobbit past! With poetry, songs and tales included!

And, of course, sausages roasted over the campfire.

We'll meet in the center of Overhill 7:30PM UK/BST (2:30PM servertime). After a short intro, we'll wander into the northern part of Bindbole, near those ruins overlooking the lands below (they are shown in the picture in the first post). While there may be some wild animals on the way there, our team of bounders will make sure that even lower-level characters can reach the spot safely and enjoy the sausages!

    Welcome!

It was a wonderful trip! Interesting stories and poems about trees and knowledge about our bounders, shirrifs, mayors and Thain.
I had a great time. And I was relieved to see that there were no casualties among the youngsters! Phew!

As master Simbo's poems, the entire night was Epic! A great athmosphere and wonderful stories, backgrounds, poems and song. And the forest smelled lovely too, with the rain and all...

And the rainbow was the perfect end to a wonderful day!
The woodworm song is in our Order Song Book now, too - on our Kinship Hall Notice Board as well as in the Archives.
