    Fireworks song
(as sung at the Badgers' open rehearsal this week)

    ScreenShot00131.jpg

    Once I got lost
    In Bindbole wood
    Fear filled my heart
    I felt so alone
    Then I heard it:
    The sky was blazing
But it was not a storm
    There were sparkles
    The brightest colors
    Fireworks from Bywater Inn!

If you can see some fireworks
They will show the way home
So if you fear someone is lost
    Just light some fireworks
    They'll lead all home

    Lights showed the way
    Brighter than day
    Joy filled my heart
    My friends were so near!
    I heard laughing
    Music and singing
    Green Dragon in full swing
    All there hugged me
    I felt so happy
    I wasn't alone anymore

If you can see some fireworks
They will show the way home
So if you fear someone is lost
    Just light some fireworks
    They'll lead all home

There are times when all is dark
    It may mislead us all
But if we light up fireworks
It will bring lost ones home

If you can see some fireworks
They will show the way home
So if you fear someone is lost
    Just light some fireworks
    They'll lead all home
    None is left alone

    I baked a cake today

When the rain comes pouring down
Heavy drops that make you frown
    From sadness
I will open up my door
Talk of the things we both adore
    Our gladness

Hey hey I baked a cake today
One with berries, nuts and cream
And I put it on this tray
Come and have a slice with me
    We’ll chase the skies away
    Make light from grey

Long the roads we have to walk
    Hardships in the shadows stalk
    Surrender
But let me walk this road with you
We will see the journey through
    Together

Hey hey I baked a cake today
One with berries, nuts and cream
And I put it on this tray
Come and have a slice with me
    We’ll chase the skies away
    Make light from grey

    Light from grey

    I will walk with you
    Today

Hey hey I baked a cake today
One with berries, nuts and cream
And I put it on this tray
Come and have a slice with me
    We’ll chase the skies away
    Make light from grey

Hey hey I baked a cake today
One with berries, nuts and cream
And I put it on this tray
Come and have a slice with me
    We’ll chase the skies away
    Make light from…

Here is a song I wrote for our dear Mayor. I performed it once at the Green Dragon too. But as the Mayor himself wasn't there, I decided to put it up there on the noticeboard! After hearing this tune, maybe he could find the inspiration to finally squash those ancient bugs that bother some of us. I am sure he is capable of doing that, after he has dealt which his luncheon that is! *grins*

    Here it is:

    A Song For the Mayor

In the town of Michel Delving
Lives a hobbit known to all
    He is Mayor Whitfoot
    Hungry, plump and small
But some things he could do better
And hence I wrote this song
For there are so many things that
    We cannot bear for long

So hear my plea, please hear my plea
    You're town's a mess, it's like a jest
    Oh can't you see?
People just grumble night and day
Only the sky will hear us pray
Listen this song, it's pretty long
    But the tune's pretty sweet!

There is a nasty bug that
    Crawls straight into your ear
    It can make you deaflike
    Some folks you cannot hear
You have to run through people
    To hear what they say
    That could really upset someone
So please take that bug away!

So hear my plea, please hear my plea
    Silence is scary, not ordinary
    It cannot be!
Could you kill that deafening bug
    With your sturdy breakfast mug
That'd be neat, have our ears freed
    From nasty bugs!

    What about storms?
They come unnoticed, leave all demolished
    After those thrills!
We get stuck in soggy mud,
Can't find berries in the flood
Warn us in advance and give us a chance
    To live in peace

And in my dress, there lives a bug
That bothers me when I purchase stuff
When I go and buy me a pie,
It wakes up and it bites!
And all those branches that grow too low
May knock out people, both big and small
Maybe you could cut them away
    Instead of eating pureé?

So hear my plea, please hear my plea
Make these things better, be a pacesetter
    That would be sweet!

Here is some homework just for you
A long list of things to do
And after your done, we'll have more fun
    And party on!

But I'm not cruel: I am grateful!
    You've succeeded and even completed
    Some grand things
You let Sandson's chucks run free
You gave Bingo chance to flee
From his neighboors and Shire boredom
    And possibly me...
So hear my plea, please hear my plea
    It would be sweet!

I'd bake you some pies, cook bacon and fries
Just name your order, I'll fill up your larder
With tastiest foods, veggies and goods
    Just hear my plea!

    Down at the Dragon

    Down at the Dragon
hobbits come to meet when the workday ends
    Down at the Dragon
each week drinks and dancing with our closest friends
Sharing the latest of news from the Shire
    Easy laughs for all
    Down at the Dragon
we meet be it springtime or rainy fall

    Down at the Dragon
Barmy wipes a glass with the utmost care
    Down at the Dragon
he knows dirty dishes make his patrons glare
Customers grumbling are bad for his profits
    so he works all night
    Down at the Dragon
the ale is expensive but tastes alright

    Down at the Dragon
    gentle melodies from the fireplace
    Down at the Dragon
the bards strums their gentle chords with flair and grace
Keeping an eye on some young rowdy rascals
    feared by one and all
    Down at the Dragon
they know bagpipes damage the bearing wall

    Down at the Dragon
quiet in a corner a lassie reads
    Down at the Dragon
she moans over hobbits and their noisy deeds
Never a moment of calm in the evening
    yet she comes along
    Down at the Dragon
she knows she’ll enjoy all the Shire songs

    Down at the Dragon
hobbits come to meet when the workday ends

    bounders 01.jpg

    The Bounders Song

The Shire, slumbering through restful times
Never do we see any crimes
Safe from harm and wicked ways

All quiet, save for rumbling sounds from a ditch
    Thundering at rock-bottom pitch
Snoring with no shame nor grace

The bounders, snoozing half the day away
Drinking all the ales on their way
    Napping by a rock today

A feather, worn with pride in earth-coloured caps
    Fluttering through long-lasting naps
    Lazy are the bounders' ways

But harken, every bounder pledges to work
Duty is not theirs to shirk
When an inn is in their gaze

The bounders, snoozing half the day away
Drinking all the ales on their way
    Napping by a rock today

A kitten, hiding in a tree by the farm
Must be saved from danger and harm
Brought down to its owner today

And surely, there's no better rescue approach
Than to go and sleep on the porch
Let the kitten make its own way

The bounders, snoozing half the day away
Drinking all the ales on their way
    Napping by a rock today

A Song About the Songburrow Pigsty

(as sung at the Dragon on last Friday)

Somet strange is going on at Songburrow Hall
Someone's building a large pigsty in the front yard
It is surely meant for many piggies!

Soon them piggies roll around in the lovely mud
They are getting hungry and want some better stuff
So they run away to Lully's turnips!

Then they see a hungry feller come along
Does he eat piggies?”... Piggies shiver
    That scares them little piggies
So they fly away like wary birdies!

Many of those piggies were baked into pies
But some of them still carry on with their lives
Eating Potty's notes down in the study!

    OOC:
Surprisingly, it is best sung to a tune about piggies:

    Lonesome Badger

(as performed yesterday at the rehearsal)

    Lonesome badger
    Lonesome badger
You're so far away from home
    Lonesome badger
    Lonesome badger
You have a long long way to roam

    I'm a poor lonesome badger
I'm a far away from home
    And this poor lonesome badger
Has a long long way to roam
I am seeking for my true home
I might find it someday soon
    For whenever I get there
    I feel no more alone

    Lonesome badger
    Lonesome badger
May you find your own true home!
    Lonesome badger
    Lonesome badger
May you be no more alone!

    I sing on my travels
I love a good old tune
    But music can get boring
If you do it all alone
So I seek for other badgers
To share my songs with them
So I just keep on roaming
    Until I find my friends

    Lonesome badger
    Lonesome badger
One day you will find your friends!
    Lonesome badger
    Lonesome badger
One day you won't sing alone!

Now I've found my own place
It is were my friends are too
They gave me some good berries
We shared a tune or two
    No more I am lonesome
No more I need to roam
All I ever need is right here
This is my own true home

    (Grand) Hooligan Song

as performed yesterday at the Badgers' rehearsal in Michel Delving.

A group of hobbits gather in the town of merry Michel Delving
It's time to say goodbye to the harmony and undisturbed peace
The blute sound makes all the burrows rattle
The pibgorn drives all the birds away

It's fair to say nothing ever stops those Shire hooligans!

They take your ore and skarn when you least expect it
No biscuit is safe when the yellow one of them is around

It's better stay inside your burrow
And guard everything that you hold dear

'Cause once they there, it's fair to say that nothing stops those hooligans!

Some of them have lost their marbles
Armed with peashooters and breakfast pans

Stand aside if you see them come
It is the wisest thing to do, fer sure!

OOC: This song is best sung to the following hooligan tune, spiced with a lot of blute, pibgorn, cowbell, rattle and drum. Go hooligans!

    Significant Otter Song

    otter.jpg

We float in a peaceful stream
Paw in paw we swim free
    Nothing comes between us

    Catching fish in bright moonlight
    We enjoy the lovely night
    It makes me so happy

    Significant otter
    My significant otter

In the morn, we reach the banks
Lie on grass, on our backs
    Sleeping in the sunlight

    Significant otter
    My significant otter
    You are my
    Significant otter

And there's no otter like you
And there's no otter like you
    And there's no, there's no
And there's no otter like you

    Sometimes I feel
We're made for each otter, you and me
It is like you are my otter half!

And there's no otter like you
And there's no otter like you
    And there's no, there's no
And there's no otter like you

    Significant otter
    My significant otter

    Let it rain

A tune for the rainy summer days!

It starts to rain, we're locked inside
But don't you feel sad, my dear friend
Let's have some fun, sing a tune or two
Jump on the bed and strum along!

Let it rain, we can stay inside!
Let's tell some stories by the fireside
Let it rain, it is nice inside!
As long as you are here with me, let it rain
Long as you are here with me, let it rain

We have pies and tasty biscuits
Let's eat them all while it rains
And after that, let's seek a napping spot
And listen the rain drops fall

Let it rain, we can stay inside!

What a grand chance to rest a while
Let it rain, it is nice inside!
As long as you are here with me, let it rain
Long as you are here with me, let it rain

    Grand Hobbit Adventure Song

    Come here hobbits
Let me tell you a story from our northern lands
Where a young lad woke one day
Felt the need to go out of bounds
"I'll go far away to see the sights
    "Adventure is calling me on
    "Dwarrows and elves, menfolk too
"Waiting for me far from my Shire home"

    Early one morning
He set off with eager strides
    Whistling and humming
    Through the lush green countryside
    Finding food inside his pack
    Eating on his own
Soon all his rations were gone, no nibbles or crumbs left
He hadn't even gone from his Shire home

Up ahead a warm and cozy inn
    Serving food all day
So the lad went in and ordered a pie
"Bring more 'til I had my way"
The plates kept piling up, so did mugs
Drinking that ale with the earthen foam
Soon he felt rather tired, he just had to snooze
Safe and sound in his Shire home

    After hours of sleeping
He woke up looking for a morsel to eat
It was time for tea and pastries
    Clotted cream and scones sweet
"Add a dash of brandy into my cup of tea, sir
"After all I still have far to roam"
With a generous splash, perhaps even two or three
Moods were high but his legs were done
"I best sit here a while longer, gather my bearings
"Have a little rest in my Shire home"

Through the evening, through next morning
And through the days and weeks that lay ahead
Always one more meal to conquer
Always one more slice of bread
He's sitting there still, getting his fill
    His adventure dreams have gone
Instead he praises the Shire, raises his mugs up high
    And he says
No place is as grand as my Shire home

Grand Pork Song (aka. Porkborough Fair)

Are you visiting Budgeford this year?
    Bacon, roasted sausage and ham
Good gravy, veggies, taters to share
Have all you want with cranberry jam

Milo Bolger will serve it all night
    Bacon, roasted sausage and ham
So get in line, there's no need to fight
Have all you want with cranberry jam

Eat that pork chop and make room for more
    Bacon, roasted sausage and ham
For now's no time to lie down and snore
Have all you want with cranberry jam

After dinner you sit down and sigh
    Bacon, roasted sausage and ham
The plates are clean, the sauce cups are dry
Have all you want with cranberry jam

Are you visiting Budgeford this year?
    Bacon, roasted sausage and ham
Good gravy, veggies, taters to share
Have all you want with cranberry jam

    OOC:
Best sung to "Scarborough Fair", for instance the version by Simon and Garfunkel below. The lyrics were written after I "sold" the tune to Tibba for a few biscuits (plus a pork shank for Abby) at the market two weeks ago.

The lyrics follow the melody line of the midi I use, not necessarily the original song. This was crash-written during tonight's market, so I might tinker a bit with a word here and there! For instance, I am not sure if people really eat cranberry jam with pork? (although it is often used in sauces or jellies...)

It goes without saying that the tune should not be performed on the pibgorn...
